Mangai paruppu/ Raw mango dal

This is a yummy dish made out of raw mangoes & stand away from normal dal dishes. This is very simple and easy dish, can be serve with hot rice & ghee.


Raw mango - 1/2 cup peeled & cubed
Thuvar dal - 1/2 cup
Onion - 1/2 medium size chopped
Tomato - 1/2 medium size chopped
Green chille - 4 to 5 (depends on taste)
Curry powder - 1/2 tsp(check previous post)
Tumeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Hing - pinch
water as required
Salt to taste
For Seasoning:
Garlic - 2 pods crushed
Red chille - 1 or 2
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - required
Oil - 2 tsp


Pressure cook Thuvar dal, raw mango, onions, tomato, green chille, turmeric powder, curry powder, hing with required amount of water.

Mash the cooked mango dal mixture with potato masher and add reqired salt.
In a Kadai, add Seasoning ingredients.
Let it splutter, then add to the cooked raw ango dal.

Serve hot.

(Note: If Mango is not too sour, then we can add Amchur powder 1 or 2 tsp depend on taste while pressure cooking.)
